The teeth were made from shards of shattered coffin wood or mangled brass fittings, as were the long talons on the end of their many fingers. The talons reached out for Jim. The orifices on the tops of their necks pulsed, opening and closing as they ground their sharp little teeth together. In the centre of what passed for their chests were two huge rheumy pits that could have been eyes or some other sense organ. I shone the light directly at the thing holding me. It was the infant. Its eyes were now mere white slits, the pupils having retracted so far they had seemingly disappeared into the back of its head. "I was already full, but I can’t say no to blood." He said as he licked his mouth that was covered in blood.

The Mouth existed as a pure expression of hunger, and hunger did not respect geography. It was a perfect circle of absolute nothing, ringed with teeth made from the fossilized screams of seventeen dead universes. Each tooth was a civilization's final moment, compressed into enamel. Kayden’s forearm tenses, and he grabs Damon’s face for leverage before pulling out one of his teeth. A deafening scream erupts into the cellar around us. “Oh, quit whining,” Kayden grumbles with an eye-roll. “Fucking baby.” My eyes take in the sight of Damon’s tooth falling to the floor beside his feet and more blood trailing off his chin onto his bare chest. “Ahh,” Kayden grimaces as he inspects his mouth. “You really need to floss better. Your teeth are nasty.” He wastes no time in latching onto another tooth and ripping it from his gums. He screams louder than the first time.
