She cried painfully in her heart as she watched still, she'd miss her Mom so much. Mrs. Mateo suffered from a serious heart Failure which claimed her life just last night, died on the way to a Hospital. Mareili Mateo had stayed all night looking after her Mom, shocked by the sudden attack yet hoped that her Mom would survive since she looked strong and jested with her before her sudden death. Even in the sick bed, encouraged and assured Mareili that she was fine. Unfortunately she asked for a drink and Mareili left to fetch it only to return to see her Mom's cold body. She had cried her eyes out, but what will be will be.

I halt as unease crushes me from the inside out. Brie’s bassinet is empty. A crimson stain… blood. There’s a trail of blood leading from the bassinet to the window where–where the balcony is– Mom’s powers burst to life as she shoves me behind her. Dad refused to tell me what I needed to do, Miss Mary offered to make dad's ginger tea and so she went to the kitchen, I didn't want to think that little by little my dad was going to forget everything about our biological mom. Then he saw Mama, her eyes red and swollen. "You. You did this. This is your fault." "What are you doing here?" Pa's eyes were clear and bright. "Daisy's mama. Why isn't Daisy eating her candy? Why is she taking a nap in the daytime?" The dark circles under Mama's eyes were like bruises. She clenched her teeth, grabbed Pa by the hair, and screamed and sobbed at the same time. "She's dead. Daisy is dead." "I didn't hurt her. I'm her mother. I was trying to do what was best for her."

This time, her arms didn't shoot out to save her. This was why Ray used supersonic stones instead of spatial compression. Only the stones could rapidly drain Mary's energy. Ray closed the spatial portal at the perfect moment. No matter how powerful her ability, Mary could only die now. Yet, to his astonishment, inside the void, Mary continued thrashing and struggling for over thirty seconds before finally going still. What the hell… her vitality was ridiculous. Her mother was pacing back and forth restlessly. Her grandmother sat crying quietly while her grandfather tried to console her. "Mum!" Mary cried out. Fresh tears spilled down her face as she ran straight into her mother's embrace, crying like a frightened child. Her mother hugged her tightly, her own eyes becoming watery. "Mum… where is Dad?" "He is inside the operating room." She pointed toward the red emergency light above the door. Mary followed her mother's gaze. The glowing red light made her chest tighten. She hugged her mother again, sobbing.

How could Mary be so heartless, so devoid of any semblance of humanity? “You even went as far as drugging her?” Mary’s face remained stoic, a proud smirk stretching across her lips. “I believe you’re not deaf, child. Yes, I did drug her. I even used the same undetectable drugs I would give to you when you were younger, and they served their purpose quite effectively. The drugs caused her to be delirious, and she walked on the edge of the building until she eventually fell to her death. A quick and easy death.”

The rain pelted the ground with an ominous sound. I walked behind the gilded horse-drawn carriage that had my mother's casket. My father was walking beside me watching the carriage with dead eyes. That was the woman he loved. Flower petals were tossed from a helicopter all the way to the cemetery. The band played somber Italian music "Ave Maria" "Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and in the hour of our death" a choir of hushed prayers fell on my ears. I was a man of God when I wanted to be and right now I believed in him to take care of my mamma.

Mary said. “How long, Mary?” I asked her again. “Sometimes for years,” she said softly. That last sentence broke something in me. I understood her reaction much better now. What I was doing was exactly how she had lost her parents and she would rather block me out and cut all ties than cremate me. If she didn’t know I was dead it wouldn’t hurt her. “Thanks Mary,” I said to her and stood up. It was at least a day’s ride back to Boulder and I didn’t want to be in Sonoma anymore.
