Pages In Books Novels & Stories

Before I could overthink it, I reached inside and carefully lifted out one of the thick, leather-bound books. Its weight alone suggested centuries of knowledge rested within its pages. My heart hammered with anticipation as I opened the cover. Every page was blank. I returned it to the shelf, grabbed another, and flipped through it just as quickly. Blank. One after another, I pulled every book from the cabinet, desperately flipping through their pages. They were all thick, heavy with promise, yet empty inside. I opened the last book carelessly, already expecting nothing. I let out an exasperated groan.

My cheeks flamed at the memory of yesterday’s disaster. I stared at the book. The thing must have held over a thousand pages. How many rules were in there?! It would take months to get through all of them. Well great. Hopefully before then I’d be back home, putting this whole experience strictly behind me and boycotting all fantasy books and novels.

I have to walk halfway down the row before I finally enter the plants and animals sections. The first couple of books are on forest plants. Then, I spot a book whose title is 'Herbs'. A short title, but it perfectly suits the book. I flip through the pages to find page after page covered in writing without a single picture in sight. Wanting to cover all of my bases, I search for a book that has pictures of the herbs. Not even five books away, is a book titled 'Herbs Catalog'. Each page of this book discusses a different herb and contains a large image if what it looks like.

Ding Hao gently opened the Book of Life and Death. Under the light blue title page, there were only six thin pages in the book, and every page of these six pages was blank without any names on it. After thinking for a while, Ding Hao realized that these six pages probably represented the six major kinds of creatures. "As for the reason why there are no names of any living creatures on them... Averting my gaze, I turn back to the remaining books on the table, skimming over the titles. After looking through the titles of the books we pulled off the shelves we were left with five books that we suspect are most likely to be the book we are searching for. One table, the one with the ghost and sex magic books, are littered with ten other books that we don’t believe are what we are looking for.

I could pick up any sound and easily was able to move if I needed to. Stumbling, she placed four books in front of me as she came back, huffing a little. I smiled and grabbed the books. Nodding, I headed further into the library, deeper into the quiet. At the far end of the building, I knew there were quieter tables near the window, where I could watch the storm roll in. Dropping my backpack on the floor with a thud, I plopped down and spread out the four books. Two were pretty thin, only about 200 or so pages. The other two were thick, anywhere between 500-700 pages at least.

I explained while keeping the antique tome in his table. "It's a book about mates but this is the first volume of it's collection, and it doesn't have provided any potential information so far." Alpha Brian leaned back in his chair, his eyes scanning my face and to the book as he listened intently. "Hmm, I see. This book is part of a collection, you say?" I nodded, my fingers pointing at the back page, showing where it shows its collection. "Yes, Alpha. There are five more volumes to it, but the first one seemed more like an introduction. I couldn't find anything useful in it."

It was written in old cursive writing and archaic language, so I had a hard time going through it. But I could understand how the chapters were separated. A story only had around three to four pages that ended without a proper ending. And there were around a hundred stories written along with images. I trailed my fingers on the pages of it while trying to imagine how it might've looked when it was newly written. The pages felt like tissues, and all the ends were bent in every way.

If she were to stop to analyze it again, she would spend a whole day staring at the page, not reading or absorbing anything. But she couldn't help it much. The second page was equal to the first z the third as well. The fourth, the fifth to the sixth, even the twenty-seventh page was the same as the first, it frustrated her.
