The stone beneath the pedestal exploded upward in a spray of razor-sharp shards.
From the black void beneath the floor, they emerged.

They weren't the sleek, noble Lycans of the North. These were monstrous, ancient things. Their fur was the color of bone, matted with cave-dirt and old blood. Their eyes were milky, blind voids that saw through scent and heat. They were twice the size of a standard Alpha, their limbs elongated and twisted, their claws carving deep furrows into the obsidian as they hauled themselves into the light.
