Chapter 4: I Was Passed Around and Filled by the Whole Group at Kane’s Private Party The private party is at a large house on the edge of the city, owned by one of Kane’s friends from the circle. I already know half the people here. My brother Ethan is laughing with a group in the living room, drink in hand, completely unaware. The string lights and music create this false sense of normalcy, but my stomach is in knots as Kane leads me through the house with a hand on my lower back.

"Oh, that's fine. Let's go up." Of course, Mr. Sidik knows Alice very well. That woman who is very close to Jordi even after he got an apartment, Alice is the woman who is often with Jordi. Mr. Sidik has probably known Alice for about five years. So, he definitely trusts Alice very much. After arriving in front of Jordi's unit door, Alice immediately entered the password. CLICK! The unit door opened and everything was dark. She immediately turned on the light and didn't forget to close the door first. One of the neighbors was celebrating their birthday and I was invited so I—” “Who were you with?” “I-I was with Pating—” “Pating? Hm. Is Pating a he or a she?”

I ramble. "Is that what you think of me? A troublemaker?" Sarah steps closer and sits beside me. What’s going on? What does she want from me? "What are you doing out here?" Sarah asks. "Just chilling," I reply. I still don't understand why she’s sitting beside me and trying to start a conversation. Is this really Sarah, my sister? "This party isn’t really your scene, is it? You feel like an outsider?" My eyes widen. "How did you know?"

He was observant enough to notice something funny about me. “Birthday yesterday? You mean Nex? Single mom with different-colored eyes?” I became puzzled by the question asked. “You know Nex?” “We’re neighbors. Right next door to each other,” he answered. “If she has a friend like you with her, I guess it will help make things easy on her.” “What do you mean by that?”

The party at our house that night was fun and memorable even though my ex Jackson was there. I am also thankful to Stefan because he never left my side. He accompanied me the whole night and I admit that during the night we spent together I got to know him little by little, as well as his friends.

I answered. "Anyone who would want to get at me would come at me, not Dad," I continued. "I don't live in a fortress. It is a hardly spacious apartment near the East River. I share the place with my roommate, Timothy Denver, and a...companion by the name of Odette Sievert." "Companion? Is she...a working girl?" Lisa went searching.

The home I’d be happy to stay in forever more. “I’m going to be very sore for my birthday party,” I said with a giggle. “It wouldn’t be a very good birthday party if you weren’t. Don’t tell me you won’t be sharing the details with Lola as soon as you get the chance.” I grinned at the mention of her name. My party would be a crowd of my favourite people.
