I often wondered how my father was able to tame Knight. He said it took years of practice, but my wolf is more stubborn than his. I see Alex more like Kaira, my mother's wolf. She is impulsive to date, no matter how my mother tries to mask it. Kaira is the most impatient wolf I have ever met, followed by Aurora, Aunty Amelia's wolf. I wondered if Onyx was like that, too. Most of the wolves I know aren't tamed; they have just been through so much that they have had to grow up.

“Piper, I love you. I want to spend the rest of my life making it up to you. Will you marry me?” I stare at him, stunned, before a bitter laugh escapes my lips. “You really think a ring fixes everything?” “Say yes, Piper,” he pleads desperately. “Let’s have the Christmas wedding you always dreamed of.” His audacity is something that should be studied, and all I can think about is how he truly puts the "EX" in Xmas.

"Dig in, Lyra. These are all your favorites." Dad quietly looked on. He lifted his wine glass and said softly to the empty seat, "Merry Christmas, Lyra." Ava and Jamie also joined in, saying, "Merry Christmas, Lyra." Outside, fireworks burst again, lighting the night sky. They were as bright and lively as last year, but this time, a member of the family was missing, and she was gone forever. That blizzard at the rest stop last Christmas had frozen an 18-year-old Omega she-wolf to death, and with her, the hearts of an entire family died, too.

I've been ignoring him, but his persistence is becoming problematic. I deleted the message without reading it. The Christmas gala is in two days. The annual event where the city's elite gather to see and be seen, to make deals and alliances over champagne and caviar. I'll need to bring Ava, show her off as my devoted wife, maintain the illusion that everything is fine. She'll smile and play her part because she has no choice. Because I've made sure she has nowhere else to go and no one else to turn to. And I'll stand beside her, touching her waist, playing the role of perfect husband, hating myself a little more with every passing moment.

Lowering myself to her level, I held her shoulders gently and brushed a strand of hair from her face. “No,” I said softly. “No, honey. You just had a nightmare. That’s all.” She didn’t look convinced. “Mummy has no reason to hurt Daddy,” I added quickly. “I’ll be back soon. And guess what? We’re spending Christmas here with Grandma and Uncle Elliot.” Her face lit up instantly. “Yeah.” “I’m just going to get a few things for Christmas,” I said. “I’ll be back.” I turned away before she could ask anything else.

Third Person's POV [Logan's POV] Logan adjusted his costume, took a deep breath and barged in through the door. "Ho, ho, ho! Merry Christmas!" A deafening silence followed and in his head crickets chirped at a distance. Everyone in the room- Joy's mum, dad, Shaun, Gemma and grandpa's eyes darted from him to Joy bemusedly. Logan awkwardly tugged at his fluffy, red sleeves, wanting for the floor to open and swallow him whole.

Just little touches here and there that we’re making my body sing and my wolf prance. But that was all we’d done physically. It was honestly driving me crazy. I was staring to wish he’d just jump my bones. Rachel was having a field day giving me shit about it. Christmas Eve and Christmas Day we’re wonderful. We’d gone into the town because they held a parade. Cristoff was in heaven and Rachel and I were having the times of our lives. We played tons of games and watched movies. It even snowed that night.

He handed her one of the sodas immediately. “I already got the tickets. The movie starts in about fifteen minutes, so we can go in anytime.” She accepted the drink. “What movie are we seeing?” “Our favorite movie.” She raised a brow. “What do you mean, our favorite movie?” He chuckled sheepishly. “The Christmas one that just came out a few days ago. I overheard you talking about it with one of the nurses. You sounded very excited.” She smirked. “So you’ve been sneaking around now, Dr. Davy?”

All along the sidewalk, children clapped and waved at the big man, some even shouting their Christmas wishes. Santa looked an awful lot like Sheriff Parks, even with his fake beard and stuffed tummy. The kids didn’t seem to notice. He waved and tossed candy from atop his sleigh, his plastic reindeer fastened up the roof of the pick-up truck towing his magical sled atop a flatbed trailer. It was decorated with fake snow and Christmas trees so that it looked as if Santa was flying over the top of a forest of lighted trees. “Well, that’s that,” Memory said, turning toward him, her hands deep in her pockets. “Until next year.”
