Forest Paw was running out of time to be released early from training, and this wolf who is studying me is their chance at finally being able to claim this scarf for victory. Suddenly, my body is tackled to the ground. Whoever it is that made their move causes the two of us to roll on the cold forest floor. The scarf is then snatched from my waist band and a small body stands above me, holding it in victory above her head as her pack mates cheer and mine stare at her in disbelief.

Their fur was patchy, ears twitching, as if they weren’t quite comfortable in their own skins yet. Mara snorted softly. “Pups. They bounce back quick, but they’re dramatic as hell.” Talia winked at me. “They’re still better patients than half the grown men.” I laughed, then spotted one small pup, a little thing with bright silver eyes and a torn ear, huddled under a blanket. He watched me warily. “Can I help?” I asked Mara. “You’re sure?” she asked, searching my face. “Yes.” Talia handed me a cloth bundle of fresh salves. “Then let’s see how brave you really are,” she teased.

“I’m Jackson. I’m four years old. Did you know that babies grow inside their mommy’s tummies before they pop out of their belly button?” Scarlet smiles. “I didn’t, but I do now.” I close my eyes in a long blink. It’s Dean’s fault Jackson won’t stop talking about where babies come from. “Want to see my room?” Jackson takes Scarlet’s hand. “I got a new PAW Patrol blanket for my bed. I have a big boy bed!” “Hang on, buddy,” I tell him. “Let’s show Scarlet around the rest of the house first and give her a chance to get settled.”

Flinn swooped down for a kiss. "Rhy, not now." "Why? Grav already knows," he whispered into the shell of my ear. "Tuckwad doesn't." Speak of the devil. Fits his little rebel spirit.” Talon, meanwhile, was holding a particularly energetic puppy that was trying to wriggle out of his grasp. “And what about this one?” he asked, his voice teasing. “He’s got more energy than Scarlett on a sugar rush.” Scarlett giggled, leaning over to inspect the squirmy puppy. “He’s… Sparky!” Talon raised an eyebrow, a smirk tugging at his lips. “Sparky, huh? Fitting for a little troublemaker.” Evelyn watched the scene with a soft smile, her hands resting on her knees. “You all seem to have a way with them. They’re lucky to have visitors like you.”

So, I get ready to receive it and the next second, throw it to the ground.
