When she reached Popo, she bent lower, pressing her cheek against his fur. Popo wagged his tail proudly. Bantay barked, Tagpi licked her hand, Patsy rubbed against her leg. Then her gaze drifted to Polly. “Polly,” she said softly, as if testing the name again. He lowered his head. His fur was patchy, his skin visible in places where hair never grew back. His bent leg tucked awkwardly beneath him. He wanted to vanish into the shadows.

But Kian and Jace didn’t hesitate. “You picked the wrong town fuckers,” Kian growled, slamming his fist into one wolf’s jaw with a crack that echoed, and the wolf was sent many deets away, crashing against a tree trunk that shook the tree branches. Jace spun, a deadly kick landing square into another’s ribs. “Come on then, mutts. Let’s fucking dance to your tune. But this time, I would be leading.” he chuckled. Snarls, growls, and the sound of flesh colliding with bone filled the air.

I turned my head and froze. Zach was lying on his side a few feet away, one arm curled under his head, the other resting loosely against his chest. His hoodie—still slightly smoky from the fire station—was bunched at the shoulder. And perched just above that bunched fabric, nestled like the world’s tiniest explorers, were two kittens. Mochi, the pure black one, had found a spot near his collarbone and was attempting to chew through the drawstring. Nova, the smaller orange tiger, was pressed up against Zach’s shoulder like a heating pad with teeth, trying to nurse from the cotton.

Tuck barely notices the time as he plays inside a Party Shop. Full of costumes and novelties, he goofs around the aisles as a firefighter. Pretending to drive a firetruck, put out pretend-fires and save store mannequins. Later swapping for a werewolf costume, then a stormtrooper. The fun dies when his name is called. "Tuck?" Eris's voice comes from his backpack. He rushes to it and digs out the radio. "I'm here." Tuck responds.

Tarsi nudged a cookie toward Purl before returning to savoring the scent of his tea. Purl already had a cookie in each paw but he cast a longing glance at the one Tarsi had put in front of him. In the end, he stuffed both of the ones he was holding in his chubby face and grabbed for the one offered. He said something that sounded like "Mmphffm mmerrmmph." "That's fucking offensive," Tricksy informed Purl who only shrugged and kept happily chewing his mouthful of cookie. "I'll give him a few minutes to finish up. I guess I should start with you, Tarsi."

Finally I feel safe. -------------------------- 6 months later Avy's POV "Hey not fair you took me by surprise" Tucker wailed laying on the mat after I dodged his punch by side stepping and before he could respond I held his waist and flipped over my head. "Lesson one always look out" I smirked getting up and offering my hand which he gladly took. "Hey wanna race till the boarder and back" his face lit up instantly. "You bet" he smiled getting in position "I'll give you a head start this time ...ready....Go!" And with that we ran, so much for a head huh!

Eventually, his heavy steps sounded on the stairs, and with eagerness, he set the vial in my hand. Relief crashed through me. I’d get this to the doctor, and my mate would be healed. But first… My gaze fell on Bert, “scratch her.” Lucy cried out as Bert’s wolfish form morphed into existence and slashed Lucy’s tanned arm, a deep wound bleeding.
