“And what doesn’t.” A knock sounded at the door, soft but deliberate. They both stiffened. Before either of them could answer, the door opened a crack. Phoenix stepped inside without waiting for permission. She looked different here, stripped of spectacle. No glowing eyes. No distortion in the air. Just a woman who looked like Elara, but carried herself like she’d already survived the worst thing imaginable. “I felt the shift,” Phoenix said.
