He closed his eyes, his jaw slackening as I scrubbed his scalp. A comfortable silence soon settled between us. As I leaned forward to rinse the shampoo from his hair, my eyes caught the tattoo inked across his back and upper arm. The design was bold against his skin, curling like claws and wings. Black flames wrapped around a serpent swallowing its own tail. "What does it mean?" I asked, my fingers lightly brushing the ink. He didn't answer at first. "It's a symbol of resurrection. Power earned through suffering." I traced the outer edge. "You got it before or after everything?"

He stares at my arm, at where the sleeve of the jumper I’m wearing is rolled up enough and his eyes focus right in on where the tattoo is. I paid a small fortune for that tattoo. It’s a phoenix. It felt almost poetic at the time although I’d admit now it’s a bit cheesy. Its wings are inked into flames. It stretches over my forearm, not too big, but it covers what he’d done. How he’d marked me.

It was a large painting of a Phoenix and its environment. Rebirth. That was its name, reborn from the ashes. That was me, when he came into my life. He was my hope and salvation. I looked at the withering white rose, pinned to its side with a faint smile. That was mine I gave to him, alongside “Rebirth.” It was an appreciation and also because I wanted to keep on seeing him often, I loved his company. He made me feel whole and alive. I whispered softly, “ I love you, Gideon and I always will.” A single tear slid down my eyes.

Erwin said calmly, bowing his head as she stomped off. A screen appeared in front of me. [Mission Accomplished! You've been awarded past life strength!
