HATE ME HARDER (a dark revenge romance)
Pour what’s left over the mattress, the curtains, the shredded clothes.
Then I pull the lighter from my coat pocket, i flick it once.and flames rose.
I touch it to the edge of the sheet.
Fire catches instantly, greedy, orange tongues licking up the fabric.
I step back.
Watching it spread.
The mattress goes up fast, cheap foam, synthetic fibers. Black smoke billows toward the ceiling.
The curtains catch next. Flames racing up the wall.
I didn't run yet.
I crouch again. Pick up the album. Ripped out two photos of the child, one from when she was small, smiling gap-toothed at the camera; the other from the beach, older, wind in her hair, looking so much like Damien it hurts.
