Do you see the common thread?” I shifted my attention back to the monitor, scrolling through the data. Names, ages, abilities—each member of the pack cataloged with precision. At first glance, they were a random assortment of wolves from different ranks, but then it hit me. My stomach churned.

Is she already asleep? Before I could even knock again, the door had opened slightly. I thought the old lady opened it for us. When I pushed the door forward, my heart jumped instantly on what I've seen. The old lady is dead! It's nails have signs of blood on it and her skin have scratches all over. It seems like she had been infected by the plague and did not manage to take the pain well and just passed away. I immediately look for a long cloth to cover her body and let the family in. I chanted some prayers on her body and of course, asked permission on her soul to let us stay in her house.

“What do you mean a plague? Be precise.” Atlas swallowed hard, his hands shaking slightly as he gestured helplessly. “It starts with fever, then the body weakens rapidly. Wolves can’t shift—some die within days. Healers are overwhelmed. Alpha, it’s moving faster than anyone can control. If it reaches the core packs, it won’t just cripple us—it could wipe us out.” The words dropped into the room like stones into water, sending ripples of dread through the silence that followed. I clenched my jaw. A plague? Now? As if we didn’t already have enough weighing on us.

That this house, the one that had withstood wars, betrayal, fire had just opened its gates to one of the horse men of the apocalypse. Plague. And something was already rotting from the inside.
