Elora's eyes widened, flicking from me to Maya, confusion and disbelief etched on her face. "Your...sister?" she echoed faintly, her voice laced with a mixture of emotions that mirrored the turmoil swirling within me. I nodded, taking a deep breath as I steadied myself for the storm of questions and emotions that was bound to follow. "Yes, Elora. My father...our father," I corrected myself, the words tasting bitter on my tongue, "has made choices that hurt many, including you and our mother. But I want you to know, none of that is your fault. You are as much a part of this pack, this family, as I am."

Deep, alive, drowning. I’d miss looking at those eyes. I couldn’t help the cry that left my throat. It was a guttural, soul-wrenching wail—raw and unrestrained—as if the grief itself clawed its way out of my chest. It wasn't just a sound of sorrow; it was the kind of cry that tore through silence like a storm, born from the unbearable weight of watching the man I loved fade away. My knees started shaking again, so I clutched Ethan tightly. “S-shit…” I whispered. I can’t do this. It feels strange and it hurts. This scene is all too familiar to me. I cannot handle this. “Baby…” “D-damn it, Ethan, I can’t do this yet,” I burst out crying again. Peter and Rei rushed to me. Ethan kept holding my hands tightly. I nearly collapsed to the ground from weakness. “W-what… w-why? L-Lando! Why is this happening again?” I screamed while sobbing, no longer aware of what I was doing.

I tried opening my mate bond and nothing happened. To say I was terrified was an understatement for sure. I opened my eyes and tears fell down my cheeks. I looked at the men sitting before me and just cried. I was exhausted and just wanted to go home. “ I can’t wake Reya my dragon and I can’t reach my mate!” I cried harder and Father C sat next to me on the floor and wrapped his arms around me. “ Don’t cry my queen. It will be alright. I promise I will help you. I know just what you need. Now dry your eyes and go rest awhile and when you wake up I promise you will be happy again.” Father C said to me as he hugged me then helped me up off the floor.

Moana Edrick’s hand suddenly fell limp. The smile on his face faded as his eyelids fluttered shut, and at that exact moment, I felt my heart shatter into a million pieces. “No…” I whispered, my throat closing up already. “Edrick?” He didn’t answer. I felt a sob catch in my throat. Without thinking, I pressed my hands into his wounds. I heard the flesh and the blood squelch beneath my touch as my vision became clouded with tears.

Then, I heard a sound I had never heard in all my years with him. I looked up to see Damon doubled over, his face buried in his hands. He was sobbing—deep, racking heaves that shook his entire frame. I had never seen a man cry so hard, especially not one expecting a child. It wasn't the cry of a proud father; it was the cry of a man who realized he had finally, irrevocably lost the life he actually wanted. He looked broken, a shell of the man who had walked through the door a week ago.

I whispered, “Our peonies… daddy it’s all ruined. My baby peonies are dead. Daddy…” she cried out, crying even more on my shoulders. “It’s okay princess. It’s going to be okay!” I assured her, stroking her hair as Val silently dapped her tears. “Daddy will get you another one, promise! So, stop crying. Don’t cry anymore, you’re breaking daddy’s heart”

I walked into the cab I had called. At least twenty missed calls from Delvin, I switched off my phone not bothering to return any of his call. Without any warning my body gave into the pain and sadness as I started to weep. Before this moment I had not known that our muscles take part in our grieving process, I had not known that a person can cry to the extent that their insides feel sore, to the extent that their head feels heavy and their vision gets blurry.

He leaned down slightly, his sharp eyes immediately locking onto the lingering, undeniable moisture shining brightly in my eyes. "Were you crying just now?" I aggressively shook my head, instantly slapping on my tough, defensive facade as I forcefully pulled myself out of his comforting grip. "I am absolutely not crying, Draven, the freezing air on the ice just made my eyes water aggressively. I am perfectly fine, I just want to get this ridiculous, suffocating equipment off my body so I can go home."
