She circled me at a measured pace, her attention sweeping over my shoulders, my posture, the way the fabric fell, the expression I kept carefully arranged.
"She's thin," she said. "Does she eat?"
"When I tell her to," Adrian said.
His grandmother stopped directly in front of me. "Camilla. What do you do for a living?"
I prepared a response, yet Adrian answered before I could form the words.
"She's an artist."
"An artist," his grandmother said. "That doesn't pay well."
"It doesn't need to. She's with me now."
His grandfather lowered himself into an armchair, watching me with the detached appraisal of someone assessing livestock.
