Press the author twice and it pings us with location.” She slid the book into her tote without looking. “And if I press the spine?” “It complains about being objectified,” Pauly said.

I stretched out my hand to grab one — a dark hardback with gold letters — but before my fingers could touch it, his hand closed over mine— firm, warm, possessive. “That one,” he murmured— he took the book from me instead— “is The Poppy War.” He flipped it open with ease, like the pages belonged to him— like he knew every content of what each page held. Then, his voice dropped, low and smooth as he recited: “Do it. Take what you want,” he said softly, his eyes never leaving mine. “I’ll hate you for it. But I’ll love you forever. Ruin me, ruin us, and I’ll let you.”

I roll my eyes and pulled the library door closed behind me, bringing me some silence although the girls screams were growing louder. I plugged in my headphones and pulled out a book from my bag and began to read, the girly screams were loud and very distracting, no matter how loud I turned up the music to my headphones all I could hear was them. “All for a guy” and I yank them out of my ears.
