Like it’s remembering another truth.” Kimberly’s pulse quickened. “Take me there.” --- The Living Archives The archives lay beneath the Temple of Echoes—chambers carved of crystal that pulsed faintly with light from the Heart below. Each wall was alive, words shifting in flowing script across their surface. Kimberly pressed her palm to one. “Show me the first memory.” The walls brightened, then shimmered with images—Selene at the moment of her sacrifice, merging her light with the Heart, the void folding inward, peace reborn.

Not just similar, exactly mine. I froze, the breath caught in my chest. The woman stood. Slowly, she turned. And even though she looked nothing like me, it felt like I was staring at myself. Her face was older, wiser, and more regal, but it was still me. The same curve of the lips, the same jaw, the same heart-shaped face. The same soul. My throat went dry. “What is this?” The woman smiled sadly. “It is remembrance.” Then the world rippled. The temple trembled around us, and everything shifted like a tide pulling back the years. The air thickened, heavy with scent and memory. The stones beneath my feet became soft grass. The altar dissolved into moonlit mist.

Lerder said, voice low, “we don’t know what they’ll cost.” She turned to him, staring too long. “I do.” The journey through the Shardlands took three days. Each night, the visions returned. Lerder dying The King laughed, his fire choking on ash. But Elara didn’t falter. Not even when the spirits of the discarded rose from the stones and clawed at her memories. She kept moving until they reached it. __The Temple of Echoes.__ A ruin swallowed by time and silence. Its stone doors glowed with faded runes—only visible when Elara pressed her hand to them. The door hissed open, and the walls behind it screamed.

Though if Debbie had paid a little attention to her surroundings, she would also have been able to know like the others. “The mentor gave orders to the senior." Amy replied innocently. Debbie took a deep breath. “Our memories are full of General rainwater...” Lamented, the rain that fell only made her spirit overflow. “Dude, what can we do?”

Symbols lit up beneath their feet, reacting to their presence. And then the whispers began. Faint at first. Then louder. *"Aria... Kael... Bearer... Children... Sacrifice..."* Rowan stumbled. Aria rushed to him, catching his arm. "They’re trying to fracture us," she said. "The temple feeds on uncertainty. On doubt. We stay close. We stay together." But the temple had other plans. They passed through a vaulted hall where the walls displayed living memories: Aria's first shift, Kael's coronation as Alpha, Rowan and Elara’s births. Each memory tempted them to linger, but they pushed forward until they reached the central chamber.

Just this. “It’s time,” Anders says solemnly. We walk together toward the part of the pack I’ve never seen before. The land shifts subtly—older, more sacred. Stone pillars rise from the moss-covered earth like ancient sentinels. In the center of it all stands a temple carved from obsidian stone, its high spires piercing the silver morning sky. The temperature plummets as we approach. I hug my arms around myself and remember Anders’ breathing exercises. In. Hold. Out. Again.

The walls themselves were remembering. Savannah watched figures walk across the stone. A man with silver eyes. A woman wrapped in moon-white robes. A little boy ran between them. Families. Wars. Coronations. Funerals. Thousands of years unfolded in silence. Lucas swallowed. "The Temple isn't showing stories." "It's showing history." Another tremor shook the chamber. The largest pillar cracked with a deafening boom. Instead of collapsing, it split cleanly down the middle. Inside... Something gleamed.
