I then remembered the door bouncing back open because of a piece of foam slightly sitting in between the doorframe preventing it from closing. "But how am I gonna get there?" I looked down at the chains that were attached to my wrist and then noticed that they weren't even locked. They were still open but slightly. I carefully shoved my thumb into the lock in attempt to apply pressure in order to get it to open up more. My acrylic nail popped off taking my actual nail off with it. I screamed out as a tremendous amount of pain shot through my hand. "FUCK!" I squealed as I watched blood seep out of my finger.

All the internet users just made fun of me, saying the breakup made me lose my mind and that instead of admitting I was not attractive enough, I was blaming Alice for having a system. I kept researching until late at night. When my stomach started growling loudly, I realized I had not eaten all day. Oddly, the breakup did not make me feel sad. Instead, I was only terrified of this unknown system. I ordered some takeout for myself, and when I saw the delivery guy, an idea suddenly popped into my head.

The Chain cracked. Not with a scream.Not with an explosion. Just a single, hollow sound, like a rib breaking in a sleeping god’s chest. Like history holding its breath, and exhaling. Seren stood still. Ash curled around her legs like thread from a forgotten loom, stirred by wind that came from nowhere and carried everything. The Chain of Thrones lay shattered at her feet, each link pulsing faintly as if torn between dying and being remembered. Some were red. Others smoked grey. A few whispered names too old for any mortal ear to recognise.

The pain is indescribable. But I don't stop. Hours pass. Maybe days. I pull and pull and pull. And then I hear it. A crack. Small. Almost imperceptible. But there. The chain on my right wrist is weakening. Hope surges through me. I pull harder. Ignoring the pain. Ignoring the burning. Ignoring everything except the need to break free. Another crack. Louder this time. The chain is breaking. Just a little more. Just a little longer.

And grabbed one of the chains. The entire valley froze. The creature examined it briefly. Then squeezed. CRACK. One chain shattered. The sound echoed across the world. The chained warrior staggered. Blood appeared at the corner of his mouth. Then another chain snapped. CRACK. Then another. CRACK. The hope vanished instantly. The creature wasn't struggling. It wasn't even trying. Then the chained warrior fell to one knee. For the first time. Defeated. The creature looked at him. Its expression softened.

The sound of the flames filled the room, and the air crackled with energy. The chains around my wrists and ankles started to rattle. They glowed red-hot from the heat of my fire, and I could feel them weakening. I pulled against them, using every ounce of strength I had left. “Come on,” I whispered through gritted teeth. “Come on!” With a deafening crack, the first chain broke, flying across the room and hitting the wall. Then another. And another. The last one snapped like it was made of glass. The stone table beneath me split down the middle, smoke rising from the cracks.

I reached into myself and pulled on every memory, every moment we had shared, and let the love I felt for him fill me until it overflowed and poured into the chains that made them shatter. Then the chains started to shake more vigorously and then fractures were seen along the length of the chains. Aiden flung wide his eyes and he squeezed my hand harder, several bolts of electricity started and seemed to intensify between us every other second.
