After Silver Prison
Above me wasn’t the blue sky of my puphood memories, but a stark, white ceiling.
I tried the simple movement of moving a finger, which seemed to drain the last of my strength.
My whole body ached, pulsing with a constant reminder that death was drawing near.
“You’re awake?” A gentle voice rose beside me.
I turned my head.
A man in a white coat, a healer, stood by my bed. His eyes were full of pity as he softly said, “Your body’s in bad shape.”
My heart dropped. I grabbed his hand, mustering every ounce of strength to beg, “Please don’t tell Daniel. I’m begging you!”
