SERGIUS I woke up chained to a bed. Again. I violently rattled at the chains and a shaking servant went out to call the healer. The healer unshackled me and I didn’t bother asking why or how. The last two times I had woken up bewildered and they had to explain to me. “This will heal in two hours,” The healer nodded to the bandages. “You are a strong Alpha.” This time I just stood up took the painkillers for the blinding headache and dull ache in my bandaged fingers and went out.

Although the war-camps are not far from here. The Healers don’t live in the packhouse and the houses near it. They live here, with their patients. Some days those tents and houses are all occupied. Some days are few and most houses and tents are empty. But the Healers never run out of patients. Ranging from stomachache and training injuries to tending Slaves that became sick after those three days and to conditions like Sasha Forster’s, which is more of the mind and feelings. She heard the tent flaps parted slightly as someone entered. Sasha pivoted to the beautiful young Healer, her golden hair roaring in the breeze that just entered from the open windows.

I gestured to her so she could sit back down and I could go see who had come to see any of us. At the door stood one of the prison guards, their eyes on the floor. When I opened the door, he jumped back and stood at attention. I raised a brow without saying anything, waiting for him to talk. “The healer asked me to come and inform you that she had treated the men, they're normal again and you can ask whatever questions you need to before any other attempt is made" he announced, then bowed and left.

My voice was steady. "The hospital and the health authorities will handle Hendrick. As for the Craters…" I paused. "Daniel, I just want to focus on my work." The cops had their own system.
