"The right question," he says softly, "is what do we want from you?" My heart pounds. "And what do you want?"

“But you haven’t told us what you really want. What’s in it for you?” The question lingers in the air like a trap, and I feel a cold shudder go down my spine. It’s a basic inquiry, but it cuts right to the core of the issue. They want to know what we’re truly after—what’s motivating us to come to them with this offer. And they’re not going to accept anything less than the truth.
