I whispered. When I was done bathing him, I wrapped him in a soft towel and sat him on the bed. I called for someone to bring food for us. Later on, an Omega servant brought a tray of food — meats, fruits, bread. The second the tray was down, Ryan lunged for a piece of meat and scrambled under the table. He clutched it to his chest like someone might snatch it away. I froze. This wasn’t just hunger. This was fear. Survival.

They ate ravenously, hands shaking as they shoveled food into their mouths with desperation, barely chewing before swallowing. Bits of food fell from their lips, their fingers stained with juice and grease, yet they never paused, eating as if they had been starved for eternity. Disgust made a grimace form on my face. This is bad. Some of them looked so fragile that it seemed they would crumble with a strong breeze. Their arms were no thicker than branches, and their faces gaunt, each cheek sunken with a shadow of death clinging to their expressions. Ikaris asked. Despite not having a specific craving for food, my hunger was undeniable. However, there was a distinct and unusual aspect to my hunger. It was not a typical hunger for sustenance but rather an insatiable longing for Ikaris and blood. The presence of Ikaris in close proximity only served to intensify my hunger. A gentle, rolling movement, as though something small and alive was stirring, turning, pressing against the walls of my stomach from within. I froze, breath catching. Hunger, I told myself. Dehydration. Hallucination from the poison. I hadn’t eaten in days... maybe longer. My body was starving, shutting down, playing tricks. But the flutter came again, stronger this time. Distinct. Undeniable. Something moving inside me. And for the first time since the pit, true fear… not of Damian, not of Jade, but of something I couldn’t yet name bloomed cold and sharp in my chest.

But even after that brief moment of satisfaction, it was still endless hunger. "I was jolted awake by hunger in the middle of the night and struggled to fall back asleep.
