Crimson Outcast
The scent of sulfur burned the air, and out of the smoke, a letter materialized, bound with black wax.
The parchment dropped to the table with a sound too loud for its weight.
We all stared.
Blake’s hand was the first to move, fingers trembling only slightly as he broke the seal. His eyes scanned the words, and his face drained of color.
I leaned forward, my chest heavy as he read aloud:
Prince Blake,
The girl you call mate is not what you believe. She is fire bound in flesh, a storm dressed in silk. She is danger. Give her to us, and your kingdom will remain whole. Refuse, and the kingdom will bleed for her.
