She sits at a wooden counter, where Cassandra comes along, “Here”, Cassandra hands her a glass of water. “Thank you” Rachael accepts the glass and glances at Cassandra as she notices the she-wolf staring at her. “What is it?” Rachael asks as she feels uncomfortable. Cassandra moves closer to Rachael and tries to touch her hair but the smaller woman swiftly slaps her hand away.

Richard and Emma stepped out of the office. Rachel closed the door. She turned and walked back to her desk. She still had a great deal of work ahead of her. Including reviewing Alina's case. Looking for cracks in Daniel's seemingly impenetrable defense. Rachel sat down. She opened the thick file on the Blackwood family. She read through her notes with careful attention. Rachel sat in the back corner of the library at a small table with her history textbook laid out in front of her. She had a notebook to the side of the textbooks with different colored notes sprawled out on the thin paper. She had her fingers dug into her dark hair and I could see that she was incredibly stressed.

In the late afternoon, Rachel found herself in the pack’s meeting hall, in a room with rows of shelves and piles of ancient scrolls. Rachel was seated cross-legged on the floor, surrounded by faded tomes and crumbling parchment. Her brow was furrowed, and her lips moved silently as she read. Her focus was so intense that she didn’t even look up when I entered the room. “Still digging through the archives?” I asked, leaning against the doorframe. Chapter Ninety Three: Rachel's Inner Struggle Rachel sat alone in the darkened room of her apartment, hands clasped tightly around a mug of tea that she hadn't sipped. The warmth from the cup seeped into her palms but did nothing to quell the chill gnawing at her chest. She hadn't been able to get out of bed for the past few days, but today, her mind couldn't afford the luxury of lingering in self-pity any longer.

She played with the flowers on her lap, staring ahead. It was strange seeing her quiet. Rachel used to talk endlessly about her day, about everything she found interesting, or about the novel she was reading. I listened even when I had no idea what she was talking about. She just needed my attention, and I gave it. I wondered if she still read the way she used to. "What book are you reading right now?" I asked.
