Steam swirled around Nora, the scent of lavender soap mingling with the rising tide of her anger. Graycen giggled, splashing playfully in the warm water. As Nora knelt to rinse the suds from her daughter's hair, a crimson mark on Graycen's wrist snagged her gaze. It was small, almost hidden, but the angry red and the telltale swelling around it sent a jolt of fear and fury through her.
"Cutie, what happened here?" Nora's voice, usually gentle, held a tremor of unease. She pointed to the mark, her finger hovering just above the sensitive skin.
