As the flames blazed in front of him, Xander sat by the fireplace, his thoughts racing. His body and soul were permanently scarred by the remains of their recent conflicts. Isabella had dozed out, her features softened by the firelight as she cuddled up on the couch across from him. His mind cleared for a minute as he observed her serene demeanour. However, the impending storm could not be avoided. The scenario had gotten increasingly hazardous the further they had penetrated Alexander's criminal organisation. More levels of treachery and dishonesty were revealed every day. Their next course of action was still uncertain, as if they were pursuing shadows on an unending battlefield.

Haven's POV I could feel the veins from my eye, head, and every part of my body pull back as my heart began to form again and blood began to circulate again. I could hear Raven yelling but I was too weak to say anything. “Why the fuck would you do that? You could have just squeezed her heart. Did you have to pull it out”? She asked, yelling at him but he looked so calm. “I thought you guys were friends”? She said and for the first time, I saw Raven looking confused.

“You expect me to believe something like that?” “No. I expect you to listen.” I took a breath. “I have seen the future. Elara cheats on Alaric with Rowland. She gets beheaded. And Alaric… he becomes a tyrant. He becomes someone no one recognizes. He dies alone at a very early age. The Ravens were the only companions he had left.” Her smile faded. I continued. “The strange illness people think I have, the memory lapses… it is because I am not the owner of this body.”

“Raven has spent her whole life acting as if she is better than the rest of us, as if love and family mean nothing to her. You are fooling yourself if you think she cares for you.” Yara placed a gentle hand on my shoulder. "I care for you, Jaxon." But I knew Raven. I had seen the way she looked at me when she thought no one was watching. The way her body melted against mine in that room, when she stopped fighting herself. Yara only saw what she wanted to see.

She is not like the others. “She is worse,” I said. “Don’t forget that.” Ragnar huffed. I could feel his unease. I can smell her even through the screen, he said. Rosemary’s Pov “You know…I thought I lost you back there…when the stables were burning…” I found myself breaking the silence , my whisper sounded louder than excepted. Xavier and I were sitting around the fire , we had both decided to wait for Andrew to return. Britney however , tried to wait but slowly drifted off into a deep slumber. Her head lays on hands , and her mouth is wide open – I can not help but feel sorry for her. She has to sleep like this from now on because of me.

I pulled myself up onto the flat surface of the island, and immediately felt my resolve buckle. The sources of light I had seen were bodies. Lifeless charred shapes of men still on fire. Selwyn’s POV The last six months with my beautiful mate have been the best in my life by far. Ever since the day I claimed Rain it has just been getting better and better.
