The second was the presence of a stranger standing beside her car, who from the looks of things, was not a friendly person. "Shit," Raven muttered under her breath as she recognized the hoodie that the strange guy was wearing. It was the same person she had seen earlier that morning in her class. She didn't know what moved her to take a step backwards, but she could feel her heart rate spiking as she watched the guy take a step forward. She could swear that she saw him smirk under the hoodie that covered a large portion of his face.

The lady was surprised and confused when he suddenly cut her off. "Y-Yes? I think she placed it on her vanity area." He felt like he was being poured with a glass of cold water when his speculation was confirmed. Hyde remembered it when he went to the victim's vanity table. He remembered what it looked like. Carrying something that burns with holy light. The crow lets out a vibration she feels in her bones—sharp, urgent. Raven stands. Adjusts the satchel. Pulls the hood lower. She doesn’t run. Running leaves trails. Instead she lets the shadows deepen around her, thickening the grass, bending moonlight away. She changes direction slightly—still southeast, but angling toward the marshes where the ground grows soft and treacherous. Places where a heavy man in armor might sink to his knees while a small girl glides across.

I follow wordlessly as Hannah checks on Sienna. Raven is short, but her deadly demeanor makes her 3 inches taller. She has the body of a warrior, broad shoulders, hips, round ass, and legs that have climbed many mountain tops in her days working with air force’s extraction team. Too bad she preferred the company of a woman. Her light green eyes are small, but get smaller when she’s worried, and the lines around her eyes are the only giveaway that she is in her late 30s. “River just called. Black clothes, no insignia, face covered by a half-mask. His steps were careful but fast, his hand close to the weapon at his hip. Raven was on him before he could clear the holster. Her blade caught the moonlight for a heartbeat, then disappeared into his side. She didn’t kill him not yet. The man went down with a muffled grunt, his body jerking as she wrenched the weapon from his grip.

The isolation that had once been about survival was now about peace. Raven sat on the porch swing, a laptop balanced on her knees as she worked on the book that had become her passion project. The working title was "Justice Served Cold: A Story of Redemption and Revenge," though she was still debating whether to publish it under her real name or maintain the fiction of Raven Steele.

But they had made it this far and Lucas knew it was only a matter of time before he finally found his mate again.
