I took my book earlier from the ground and started to read again but this time I can't concentrate. My head kept replaying the scene from earlier..

Despite being alone in her room, she read the text out loud. “Maggie, I am sorry, there is no excuse for the way I behaved tonight, but when I learned that you were pregnant, I can’t tell you the fear I felt in my heart, and how terribly it made me think let alone act. I am sorry. I still need time to process all of this, I know I am the last person you want to contact right now, but I am going to say it anyway, please just wait for me to reach out to you, and I will reach out to you, I just need time. But I will let you know soon.”

LAUREN’S POV Standing there, my eyes filled with shock as I read through the email over and over again. The words blurred and sharpened, yet no matter how many times I read them, the message didn’t change. I scrolled up, scrolled down, even refreshed the screen like somehow the internet might have glitched and would replace those lines with something else, something better. But no, it remained the same. They can’t do this to me. No, this has to be a mistake.

But I'd be lying. Because the truth is I spent the entire day in my room replaying it. The steam. The mirror. His eyes finding mine before either of us was ready. The way my name sounded in his mouth like something he hadn't meant to say out loud. I'd made three separate attempts to read the same chapter of the same book and retained nothing. I'd stared at my ceiling for an embarrassing amount of time doing absolutely nothing except thinking about water tracking down collarbones and a towel hanging catastrophically low. And then Reid in the hallway. That slow curl of a smile. You're very red, Sloane.

No matter how my decisions change, things would still end the same, like meeting him and our first kiss. I miss G****e. It would take seconds to g****e answer. Now, I had to spend the whole afternoon seeking answers. I read every book, every article related with time traveling, but it confused me more. If I recall it right, I never wanted to be reincarnated, I did not say I wanted to go back in time and add more complications to it.

Dante's text came at eight forty-seven on Wednesday night. *She'll think about it.* Roman read it at his desk in the study where he had been reading without fully reading for the past two hours. He read it once. He set the phone down. He picked it back up and read it again, which was not necessary because he had understood it the first time, but he read it again anyway. He put the phone in his pocket. He got up and went to the kitchen. He stood at the counter. He went back to the study and sat down.

“Well, that's what you get for rejecting your first love and mate.” I paused. My wolf has just spoken to me. For the first time in five years, he actually said a word to me. “Glad to see we are back on speaking terms,” “Don't push it, I still haven't forgiven you.” “You know I had no choice.” “Everyone has a choice, you just chose to be blind to it.” Warmth spread across my chest, hearing his voice again was so good. I only just realized how much I missed it. The loneliness in my chest was leaving.

I don’t remember a minute of the drive back to the house. I thanked the driver and walked up to the front door. I was hesitant to even walk inside. I had finally stopped crying. I am worried I may start all over again. I have so many questions that I do not know the answers to. Do I really want to move back to my parent’s house and not see Holden? I lived eight years without him before, but did I want to live that hollow life again. Since I had come back to town I feel like I am whole again. The piece that was missing from my heart was back. I am faced with the fact that Holden could have been lying to me about the use of protection. If that is so, can I forgive him. He has a baby on the way
