The moment my fingers touched it, warmth spread through my whole body. I whispered, “It feels alive.” “Because it is bound to your soul,” Lotus said. “Go through it. Find what you need most.” I turned the pages. Each one was covered in ancient letters, glowing faintly. Some words shifted like they were moving. My eyes darted over spell after spell until one line made me stop.

The spreading black pigment on her skin receded and black smoke was oozing from the cut on his cheek. The smoke that came out gathered and coagulated into a black lotus flower. The flower zipped and disappeared before everyone's sight, "got you," everyone heard from within the jungle. Verra soon emerged with the Lotus trapped inside a mana glass bottle covered in runes. The lotus was inside, changing from solid to gas form while attempting to break out of the jar. "What is it?" Delphine asked.

Gradually, the sea of blood around began to change. In the rumbling sound, as the Blood Sea gathered toward Caspian in the center, it stretched out its own branches. In the end, the whole Blood Sea turned into a huge blood-red lotus. The leaves and petals of the lotus were vivid and lifelike. It was like a real blood lotus standing proudly between heaven and earth. However, the Blood Lotus was too fierce and surging. If ordinary cultivators got a little closer, their consciousness would be eroded. They would either be integrated into it or become its puppets.

Krister asked, looking at his tablet still before walking to the back room. “Black? She doesn’t-- I mean didn’t wear anything else?” she asked, her eyebrows meeting in the middle confused. “Don’t tell me she’s one of those people…” “Yes, specifically black clothing. They’re hot in the day but you disappear in the night. That’s what she always said to me.” Krister disappeared in the back to get something whilst Rojean was left there to contemplate on her own how she was going to pull the act off if she was a bad liar herself.

In his hand was a small glass vial filled with liquid that shimmered faintly gold beneath the dim torchlight. “Drink this,” he said softly, holding it out to her. Livia eyed the vial warily. “What is it?” “It will not harm you,” Roman promised. “It’s a drought of calm — brewed from moon lotus and heart’s root. It will ease the ache and soften the bond’s pull, if only for a while.” Her wolf snarled weakly in protest. It didn’t want ease. It wanted him.

Far away, beyond the western smoke and broken border stones, Blackfang’s old Alpha hall answered with a deep bell none of us had rung. The ground beneath the moon field shook. The ancient throne turned toward Blackfang. The first Blood Feather book opened to a blank page and then wrote in black fire for every parent to see. The altar beneath Blackfang has awakened. Lobo smiled like a wolf who had already counted the bodies. “Run quickly, rejected Luna,” he said. “Your old pack’s children are standing inside the blood circle now.”

Terrifying. "You knew this would happen," I whisper. Arthur doesn’t deny it. I yank a book from the shelf at random, pages fluttering. "Then tell me what this is." His hand closes over mine again, stilling me. "Careful, Lily. Some doors don’t close once opened." I look down. The book falls open to a page marked with a black ribbon. The ink is faded, the letters spidery and old: "The Luna’s Sacrifice: A Ritual of Convergence. To strengthen the child, the mother must offer her life force under the blood moon..."

I was too hungry to savour the taste, so I just scoffed it down but it was delicious, and by the time I was done, the world was a much happier and brighter place. It was when I was leaving, sipping my coke that I noticed the shiny black Mercedes Benz sitting infront of the bookstore, and of course I only saw it now that my stomach was no longer at war with me. I was reminded of the gorgeous man who was currently in the bookstore,the same man I just completely embarrassed myself Infront of. Shoot me now.

Lola turned her hand and the blood blended with Jax’s. “Very well, now for the Luna, Lola Blackwood, as she leaves her mark and takes us into this pack’s new era of leadership.” Mr. Blackwood said and stepped back. Everyone was watching the stage in anticipation. The hill fell silent from any chatter and gleaming squeals as they pierced their focus on Lola. “Where is it?” She asked Jax. He furrowed his brows and leaned in closer. “Where is what?” “The scripture that I'm supposed to read from, where is it?”
