She ran her fingers along the spines, the gold lettering cool against her skin. Drawn in by the sheer volume, she hesitantly pulled a book from the shelf, a slim volume bound in dark blue leather. The title was etched in silver: The Royal Grimoire of Sacred Oaths. She opened it, her eyes skimming the ornate calligraphy, the intricate diagrams filled with arcane symbols.

“They found out I have the code. I don’t know how, but… I’ve seen them watching me. I’ve been followed. Two nights ago, someone tried to break into my place. I have to disappear, Lexi.” My voice trembled. “So what do you want me to do?” He handed her a single page—a torn scrap filled with symbols, numbers, and scribbled lines. It looked like chaos. “I need you to write this down. Copy it—exactly. Keep it somewhere safe. Somewhere no one would look. I’m burning this journal tonight. Sophie's POV “This is impossible.” I managed to say the words. I reached for the library shelf. The air smelled of old, rusty papers. I touched a worn-out journal. It tingled. Almost like a heartbeat. “The Ledger of Satiety.” My heart skipped. My father told me stories of Alpha Alaric, the legendary king. Now I held his personal journal. He would teach me ancient recipes and speak of Alpha Alaric while we cooked. I snatched the book. My excitement caused a mistake. I knocked over my open water bottle.

Slowly, Adrian took the books, and began to open them. Adrian read a few pages from the pages in the book. “A diary?” Adrian muttered realizing what the book actually contained.

I never wanted to see this box again. Why am I here? Why did this force bring me here? "Let me out. Let me out." I hear that voice again. I'm still not in control of my body. I watch my hands grab the box. My mom sealed it with a spell only she can undo but somehow as I grab it, it clicks open and all the magic that was sealed in there finds it's way inside of me. It passes through my nostrils, my ears, my mouth and I feel it rushing through my veins. Oh no. What have I done?

He had hurried to leave after preparing the medicine, not wanting to face Diana again. Diana was curious about his behavior, but she couldn’t force him to answer her questions. Taking the bowl, Diana drank all the medicine. It didn’t taste good at all; it was bitter and cold, Diana felt her tongue go numb after drinking it. After thinking for a while, Diana took her bag and packed her books inside, then left for the college library.

Inside, most of the books stayed dry. Cyrus had never been much of a reader in the old world. In the age of smartphones, patience came cheap. Reading demanded effort and time, time better spent scrolling through short skirted influencers. Now the internet was basically dead. He rarely even touched his phone anymore.
