Jenna's POV As I head back to my room, the embers of Greta’s words still smolder in my chest, sparking an unexpected fire. I can’t quite shake the idea that’s taken root in my mind—this old inn, worn but sturdy, could be more than just a shelter. Greta has given us a roof, and maybe that’s all she meant it to be, but I feel it could become so much more. The council and their spies may be relentless, yet the thought of creating a place of true refuge here, hidden away from their reach, fills me with a hope I haven’t felt in a long time.

“How do you know about Zain’s curse? You aren’t exactly close to him, and I highly doubt that Miss Shuzen would go around telling just anyone her nephew’s business. Also, burying your head in books doesn’t cut it Jenna. Anyone could bury their head in books.” Jenna nodded her head, gently waltzing around her room and admiring the strange elements in her décor — candles and dusty old books. “Good question, but the thing is I am not just anyone, and I don’t bury my head in just any random book.” More mystery and ambiguity.

She had clearly been crying right along side Jena. “Look, I messed up, but I didn’t touch Tiane. You know I struggle to read, so I brought her here to read the freaken book to me that Jena wrote. I promise, that is all she did.” I explain, but they don’t look like they believe me.

I asked. She smiled at me. “Of course I am, the club doesn’t open until ten, remember?” she said. I saw her glance at the clock on the nightstand next to the bed. “It’s only seven.” She got out of bed and, nude, padded out of the room. Jenna wasn’t in the bathroom long. When she returned to my room, she sat down on the bed, leaned over and kissed me softly, while her fingers traced my face. “You were wonderful last night,” she whispered. “I haven’t felt that good in ages.”

Nerthus “Jax! Jax!” Jenna jumps up and down, getting the bouncer’s attention. He smiles as he opens his arms to hug her, and I ask myself how he could even recognize her with his sunglasses on. We walk into the club and I’m still hugging myself as my skin slowly gets warmed up by the crowded space we step into. Jenna takes my hand and I follow her to the bar where we take a round of shots. After we feel inebriated enough, we hit the dance floor. If it was for me, I would only go to woman-only clubs, but as Jenna sometimes loves the attention she gets from men and also uses this as her marketing scheme, I tag along and find myself disgustingly getting out of random men wrapping their arms aro

Yilena beamed and handed me a glass. "Cheers!" she said, clinking her glass against mine before gulping down her drink. "Well?" she urged me to drink mine and I did exactly that. Or at least I was about to before my eyes caught sight of Jenna walking into the club. "Keith?!" "I've been calling out your name! What's up with you?" Yilena frowned." "Everyone is here to celebrate you. And yet, you're only giving me attention. Shouldn't you speak with others as the woman of the evening?" I replied, cold-heartedly before turning my eyes back to Jenna.
