She looks at me. "You really believe that."
"I do," I confirm.
Day Five.
I bring books today: old stories from my childhood, adventures, romances, anything to distract her from the pain.
"Would you like me to read to you?" I ask.
She nods, so I sit against the wall beside her, open the first book, and start reading.
My voice fills the cell, replacing the silence, the fear, the despair.
I read for an hour while she listens without moving, just soaking in the story.
