The sharp, medicinal smell filled the small space, mixing with the faint salt air drifting in through the open window.
He hissed through his teeth when the liquid hit the raw skin, small, involuntary flinch, but he didn’t pull away. His fingers curled slightly, then relaxed again, letting me work. A thin line of blood had already crusted along the edge of the bruise; the skin around it was purpling fast, turning mottled shades of deep violet and angry red.
I pressed a little harder than necessary on the next swipe. Not enough to hurt him badly, just enough to make him feel it.
