"Hey hun, what's that tangerine smell? It's so sweet." Before she noticed it they were at the front of the counter and Slidell was chit-chatting the girl who's in waitress uniform. "We have a new cake made with tangerine, do you want to taste it?" Slidell looked at Cleo as if asking for permission but the latter just raised her brow before turning her body to sit on the other table –the one near the four teenagers watching something from the laptop. "Two please, and a devil's cake for Ace." She heard him say.

"Being made by a bakery in Queens. Three tiers, simple buttercream frosting, fresh flowers for decoration. Mrs. Martinez showed me the design—it is lovely. Nothing over the top." Alex squeezed my hand. We had agonized over the cake for weeks, looking at elaborate fondant creations before realizing we wanted something simple.
