I parted my lips in surprise and tried to explain that we were not a couple but she immediately dived into the cake testing. I turned to look at Dax and he had a smirk on his face. “You are such a—” “Yes, this is the first cake. It is our most regular cake; vanilla but you know some couples prefer simplicity, something basic!” The lady rambled on.

The one is a sword, and the eight is two throwing stars stacked on top of each other. I feel a warmth in my chest at the thought that went into it. The cake is very simple. It’s a rectangle with light yellow frosting, and small delicate gold swirls around the sides of each layer. There’s 18 candles in front of the figure on the top layer, with a very simple “Happy Birthday Raven” on the top of the lower tier that borders the top. “Thank you everyone. It smells delicious, but it’s almost too beautiful to eat.” The omegas that worked on it beam from my praise.

She took the menu to order something; Logan took the menu from her hand and said, “You can’t order anything.” Sia asked him with confusion, “But why?" I came here to eat.” Ronin told her to wait! A few seconds passed. The waiter brought the large three-layer cake and put it on the table in front of Sia. On the cake a line was written, "Happy winning, dear! Sia.” Sia saw the cake and couldn't take her gaze away from it for a while; it was a beautiful blue Barbie cake. Ronin said, “Take the knife and cut the cake.”

“Will you come with me?” There was a long pause. Then he nodded, his voice soft. “Alright.” Zack pulled the car around. As we drove, Kane wore a low cap and a mask, clearly uncomfortable being in public. I slipped on a mask too, and we slipped into the mall without drawing attention. At the entrance, the smell of sweet cream hit me like a memory to the face. There it was. The Cake Boutique. Black Forest. The one cake I could never have. My feet stopped before I realized it, eyes locked on the glass display. There it sat—rich chocolate, creamy layers, glossy cherries on top.

The song completes. “Make a wish girls,” I say. They both close their eyes, making their wish and then open their eyes, blowing out the candles. Everyone applauds and the kids line up for cake. Miss Kat and her niece, Katherine, start cutting up the cake and passing out pieces to all the kids and adults that are present. Miss Kat made sure to make their favorite flavors. Red velvet for Maliyah and chocolate for Malayah. “This is the best Miss Kat,” says Malayah. “Yeah, thank you,” says Maliyah.

I decided to eat cake, I really like cake especially the chocolate and cheese cake from Dessert Paradise because it’s so delicious but Rackie doesn’t want sweet, she likes sour or salty food which she used to love sweets. While I was looking for the cake in the refrigerator, Art suddenly passed at my back. “Sorry for what Red showed earlier, he’s tired because he had a lot of work to do in the hospital and besides the frustration he feels towards himself for not being able to help Rackie.” I just nod while eating the chocolate cake I saw in the ref. “Are you listening to me?” he ask which I answer with just a nod. “You eat cake out of irritation, aren’t you health conscious?”

A magician with a tall hat pulls out colorful scarves and makes coins disappear, the children gasps and claps from the show. Every corner of the hall has something fun: a candy floss machine spinning pink clouds, a popcorn stand, and tables filled with treats and juice boxes. Now, it's time for the highlight of the day. Declan stands proudly in front of his massive Batman cake. The cake is almost as tall as him, layered with chocolate and vanilla, and shaped like the superhero himself. Everyone gathers around, with their phones out, flashes going off as the camera clicks. Declan beams like the happiest boy in the world.

Incoherent words spill out of Zale's mouth continuously. You pretend you don't know him. Your best friend Lisa slides into view with a tray full of deserts enough to feed an army. "I present to you this red velvet cake with swirled whipped cream on the top, crystal rainbow cupcakes, our famous chocolate chips cookies, muffins, and last but not least. Our house specialty, strawberry cake. It's on us for today. Eat up now. You too, Lia." Free food. You tell yourself. Free diabetes. "And what happened to you?"
