“The meat’s all ready. Bring your plate closer, Taylor.” Taylor took up her plate and held it towards him. He held up a piece of meat with a tong then used a meat shear to cut it into the plate piece by piece. “This is okay. Thank you.” Taylor mummed when she felt he had cut enough. The man however, stared at her blandly and asked, “Are you sure that’d be enough? I can always grill more.” She shook her head and smiled lightly, “Thank you, Mr. Sanchez. These are already too much for me to finish.”

Colt knew that with us growing up together. I walked from the front door into the kitchen and looked at the calendar to see what day it was. It was Tuesday, so I looked at the packhouse dinner menu. It was meatloaf, so I decided I would make dinner myself. The packhouse meatloaf was horrible and I don't think very many people ever ordered dinner on those nights because of it. It was like eating a stale rubber shoe. If that was even possible.

Rush's voice shook him out of his reverie. "There's fresh deer and turkey. Oh and boar meat. Very fresh. Chief Richard dropped that off today." My heart jerked at the mention of that name. "Which do you prefer?" Kevin asked me. "Uh... turkey's fine," I replied. Moments later, Mrs. Rush brought a bowl of chopped roasted turkey with sauce. I carried the bowl, eager to get upstairs and see what Kevin meant to show me. As he started to pay for our drinks, something nudged my senses.

Soon, the meat was cooked. Mae stared at the bright red meat after the lid was lifted, smiling innocently. “Can we eat it now?” Clar smiled. “Not yet. It needs to be dried. It’ll probably be ready the day after tomorrow. I’ll bring you some.” Mae’s expression instantly fell. “Two days… that’s torture.” Luna, overhearing their conversation, interrupted, “Clar, come take a look. Is this okay?”

Her face was priceless as she bit into the meat. “Good?” She leaned over and whispered, “This has to be one of the best meals I have ever had!” “I will have to let you try some of the deer Makya prepares. The steaks are amazing but what he can manage in a stew is superb.” Dinner ended with Kiara and I both having very satisfied stomachs, while the rest of the gruff group brooded over small matters and lynx just stared out the large bay window. I stood and did my best to be gracious, “Thank you, Arvin, for dinner. My compliments to the chef. If there is nothing else, I think we will retire. I look forward to seeing clearwater tomorrow.”

They should have the meat Kratos desires and not the fake stuff produced by the chain restaurants that humans love. Kratos- Yes! Double meat burger with bacon! I laugh loudly before sprinting the last half mile. I get all the way to the entrance before a different smell slaps me in the face—a hot and fresh, feminine fragrance that makes me drool more than the food. Kratos freezes in my mind as I pull the glass door open and look around.

After we settled into the couch with a big blanket, lots of pillows and the tray of food over our laps, Gunner put on an animated movie. “A kids movie, really?” I asked him, already feeling bored of it. “It’s one of my favourites and it’s a classic, plus you need to understand the reference I made the other day. So just shut up and watch it” he quipped and kissed my cheek before grabbing a handful cooked meat. I watched him shove the strips of beef into his mouth and I started to drool. It looks too good. I grabbed a handful and began filling my gob. The meat was tender and juicy and perfectly cooked, but it tasted different than usual. It was way better.

It doesn’t work. All I can think about is Cyran. RONN Oward hands me a piece of meat from a pot and I accept with a gracious smile. ‘It’s been a while since I’ve had one this good,’ I say, after a bite of the succulent meat, ‘This mutton?’ ‘Oh no. Sheep ain’t available as they used to be. Something about wolves…’ He shoots a glance at sirgil, as dirty as always. ‘Well I can guarantee the harmlessness and good training of mine,’ I say with as much charm as I can summon. ‘yeah right’. Sirgil doesn’t bother with a reply; he’s still spooked by the thunder rumbling outside.

After a moment, she finally nodded her head slowly. "All right, Luna. Go ahead." "Thank you." I was so happy to be back cooking. Wasting no time, I quickly grabbed the fresh meat that was already available on the kitchen table. I cut the meat quickly, without cleaning the blood at all. "I'll make Luke and Lucas' favorite medium rare steak. They both love it," I muttered with a happy smile. I don't know how long I've been engrossed in the kitchen. But while I was busy cooking, I suddenly felt a pair of arms wrapped perfectly around my stomach. A pair of burly hands hugged me from behind, making me jump in surprise.

I felt my face heat up with embarrassment. We picked up our forks and dug in. I chewed slowly, savouring the tender and juicy taste of the meat. Rosemary, thyme and a hint of coriander seasoning melted into my taste buds. My mother's cooking wouldn't stand a chance against this...wait "What type of animal meat is this?" "Grasscutter," Richard answerd, licking his lips. "It's a Midland delicacy." "Well it's really good," I complimented as I took in another piece. "I don't think we have anything this good back in Hartland."
