But even as much as she wanted to rebuild, even as much as she wanted to carry on, there were remnants of the past that haunted her.
"Sometimes I think," she began quietly, her words barely a whisper, "that no matter how hard we work to reassemble ourselves, there are pieces of us that we will never be able to fix."
Ignatius sensed the emptiness in her tone and shifted nearer, his presence a meager comfort. "I know," he whispered. "But maybe we don't have to mend everything. Maybe we only need to be able to accept what is."
Krishna's gaze rose to his, and for a moment, their eyes held two people, poised between past and future, unthinking of where either would lead.
