Hearing rustling below I peeked over the patio railing and scanned the treeline. In the darkness, I saw a figure emerge wrapped up in a cloak and watched as they stepped closer to the patio steps. “Who goes there?” I called out and heard laughter. “Just me, Mom! TERRA'S POV: I knew I was gem and it was sad for Mrs Anderson that she was realizing this after years but as long as she knew then that was okay. I would love to see her kneel before me though. “Are you okay, mummy?” I didn't even realize the kids were here so I was startled. “Of course.” I responded with a smile and they had their eyes glued to the screen. “That's your father's mother, the white headed lady.” I pointed out and they laughed at my tone and I ushered them to go eat their breakfast before we ran late.

She wanted to avoid any awkwardness since she wasn’t ready for any sort of physical intimacy. “Do you need help with anything?” I queried, my heart going out ot her. Remy shook her head furiously and looked at me with sympathy. “On my way out the back door, I saw…your father. He was in the ki-kitchens instead of the room Vincent gave him…” Remy shrugged her shoulders helplessly. “He’s…breaking plates and glass and screaming incoherently.” Gabe cursed. My heart sank. He told me he’d try to be better. This was not better.

I watch until they vanish into the trees before I step back inside. The house feels too quiet without them all here. I find Remy in the kitchen, leaning against the island with a can of Coke in one hand. The early evening sunlight through the window highlights his stubble, giving him a ruggedly handsome edge. “Hey,” he says, offering me a small smile. “Hey,” I smile back. “Is it me, or has today been the longest day ever?” He sighs. “Yep, and it’s still not over yet,” I grin sarcastically, “But we are all alive and healthy so we can’t complain.”

I got a strange feeling, like I was being watched. He grabbed my hand and squeezed it, with eyebrows raised. “You don’t think your mom sent him to convince you to be the next chief?” He asked. Sliding my hair back over my shoulder, I shook my head. “No, I don’t think so, he was talking about me being a leader not the chief.” I shrugged. We talked some more about the strange men and what he meant by me being the right leader when the time was right. Remy convinced me that maybe my mom didn’t send him and what happened today on the phone was just coincidence

He grabbed a fresh diaper and wipes from the cabinet, changing Remy with practiced movements while the child watched him with trusting eyes. “This isn’t about me and Destiny,” Ronan said through gritted teeth. “This is about you almost letting our son sit in his own filth until he got a rash. Look at him, Andrea. He’s exhausted and scared. When was the last time you actually held him? Talked to him? Or were you too busy plotting with Donovan Crowe to notice?” Andrea poured herself a generous glass of wine, the liquid sloshing against the sides. “Don’t act like you’re father of the year. Remy isn’t even yours biologically, remember? You’ve known that for months. Yet here you are, still playin
