“You big babies, I’ll do it myself!” Lyra hissed. She slid a claw through the edge of the stitch, cutting it free. Carefully and seemingly without pain, she pulled the thread out slowly and precisely. Despite being unnerved, Xavier and I watched with fascination as Lyra methodically unthreaded her wound.
“This is weird,” she complained, struggling at the unnatural angle she had to maintain in order to get it all out.
“I . . . I think I can help,” I managed, not wanting to cause her more pain simply because I was being a wuss about a little blood.
