Restart Novels & Stories

"The frame is frozen. Move." Lina jammed the USB into the terminal. The monitor flared, washing her face in a ghostly blue glow. "What’s the window on the server reset?" Lina asked. Her pulse was a frantic hammer against her ribs. "3:15 AM sharp," Noah said. "When the bank server resets, the verification logic goes blind for ten seconds. It’s 3:14 and forty-five seconds. You’ve got fifteen ticks to hit the gap." "Count it." "Ten," Noah started, his voice tightening. "Five. Three... two... one. Rip it."

Let's end this. ***

Everyone clutched the weapons in their hands tightly and stared straight at Bloody Rose. In the command center, Carlos looked nervously at the main computer that he had no control over. A bunch of software engineers were working hard to restore the backup network. Ten seconds later, Bloody Rose’s paralyzed system was switched and the backup system went online. The restart was completed in just three seconds. An operator said, “The system has been restarted, and the backup network is online.” Carlos nodded. “Good. If those b*tches from Navia come here, we’ll show them how I will give them a violent death—”

All this was happening around the time that Katey and I were playing Dungeon Raydens a lot and I inadvertently saved a copy of myself in the game. Imagine an old, on-the-blink PC. You have a choice to refresh, reset or restore it. Refresh would give me a hangover not unlike what a shot of tequila would give an eighteen-year-old 120-pound human. Reset, on the other hand, would be a Jason-Bourne-level amnesia. And Restore? The damage of Restore depends on how far back the Restore Point is. In my case, it was precisely 9 days before prom, pre-Cool-off with Katey.

I close the page, return back there again and retry, end up on nothing again. I spin it fifteen more times with no luck. It is either rigged or I just have no luck. Sighing, I drop the phone, hoping both of them are safe.

I yelled an frustration I stormed out the front door into the yard to cool down and breathe . The house was still smoking , I thought quickly and grabbed up some dirt from one of the piles. I ran back inside to the kitchen to smother the smoke so I threw the dirt on top of it and it stopped. I stepped through the back door to get the fresh air I needed. " Just f****** great " I said, rubbing my head with my hands. Once I calm down I walk back in the house turning off the water seeing that the house was clear smoke. I dug in the sink through all the mud to find my phone and it was fried to bits. I signed and now I have no phone. I will have to wait until tomorrow morning.

Ariane’s POV “Yes, that’s all I want,” he replied, his eyes sparkling with hope. “We’re going to take this step together. I want to mend the pieces and try to be in your life again.” Instantly, a new glimmer of hope entered my life, and though this journey would not be easy, I knew that this moment was the beginning of something beautiful—a chance to rebuild lost connections, hear each other’s stories, and start a new chapter in a life that had been separated for so long.
