Chris built a rhythm, his hips rolling forward, the slap of skin starting soft but growing louder. Sweat broke out fresh on their bodies, the afternoon heat and their exertion making it pour. It trickled down Chris's back in rivulets, soaking into the waistband of his lowered shorts. On Lily, it beaded between her breasts, still confined in her sports bra, and ran down her sides. The bushes around them rustled with a light breeze, leaves whispering like they were in on the secret. But their movements made the branches shake a little too, stems bending under the force of his thrusts.

"Emily? Emily, are you there... Don't do anything stupid!" The phone was still connected to the call. My mom was still listening. I froze for a moment. In that instant of distraction, Cynthia quickly broke free. She stumbled back several steps, eyes wide with fear, staring at me. Seeing her escape, my first instinct was to chase after her. But my mom's voice crackled through the phone. Her voice was filled with sobs. She sounded helpless and sorrowful. My out-of-control mind snapped back into focus. 'If I get caught... It's a crime... Cynthia would be fine... I've hit her... She's bleeding... If I blind her, I might not even… I can't go to prison... I can't…'

Robbie’s POV "Are you two already through, or do you just lack stamina?" The voice cut through the heavy, metallic scent of the room. I didn't look up immediately. I knew the silhouette in the doorway. Ripley stepped inside, his tall, muscular frame draped in a black shirt that fit him like a second skin. He looked immaculate, a sharp contrast to the grit of the basement.

My cell phone started ringing and I answered seeing it was Liam. I watched the driver's door open and a figure step out into the rain without hesitating. He didn't run. He walked, steadily, through the downpour, and tapped twice on my window. I looked at Chris through the rain streaked glass for a long moment. His jacket was already dark with water across the shoulders. He didn't look annoyed or self conscious or like he was waiting for credit. He just looked at me, the same way he had looked at the floor in the gala corridor, like he had somewhere to be and had decided, without making a production of it, that this was it.

Toni and Xian both turned to him, horrified. “What?” Toni gasped. Xian began to cry as Toni pulled her into a tight embrace. Something was wrong — deeply wrong. The air was shifting. The water felt heavier. Then, as if in response to their fear, a single taunting wave slammed against the hull. Bob staggered. His breath came in sharp bursts. “Okay. Okay. Fuck!” Xian looked up at him, her face soaked in saltwater and tears. “Tony!” What none of them realized was that they were now drifting within the center of a massive tidal rip — a silent predator hidden beneath the sea. Bob knew Tony was a strong swimmer, but too much time had passed.

“What do you listen to?” Ru glanced at her for the first time, realizing that, with a name like Lyric, she must like music. “Uh, mostly punk. Some grunge.” “Cool. I like all music, but I listen to a lot of punk. I really love “Happy Being Miserable” by New Found Glory. Have you heard it?” “Yeah, of course,” Ru said. “It’s one of my favorites right now. I like “Get By” by Real Friends, too.”

Rhea motioned for Dillan to come closer. Rhea knew Dillan, only briefly at first, because of the different majors they took at university, but she was quite close to him now because she thought Dillan and Moira were a perfect couple. If Rhea knew that there were several men who were starting to take an interest in her best friend, she would definitely be the most noisy person in the world.

The theater is busy for a Friday. Everyone is excited for a superhero movie premiere. I leave the office after turning in my cash drawer and almost run directly into Gavin. “Hey, Ainsley. You know Sarah, right?” He asks. He has his arm draped over a brunette girl’s shoulder. I assume he’s trying to make me jealous. It won’t work. Everyone knows Sarah Cooper. She’s a werewolf cheerleader who has a reputation for sleeping around with humans and werewolves. She’s also one of Riley’s ex-girlfriends.
