"We were told you usually have to combine several characters together just to arrive at one letter. It's like a puzzle. That is why nobody can simply read it." I sucked in a deep breath, going through all that was said again. It was the first time I had ever heard of something like this. But according to them, it was clearly a hidden truth known only to those of royal bloodline or those belonging to high-ranking families in the pack. Even they could only recognize the letters. They could not decode it. Adrian pulled away from me and moved closer to the board. He looked curious. He had always loved challenges and was no novice when it came to puzzles.

“Since you both don’t have an answer, we’ll skip the question. Just for the case of learning, the answer is: 365 days. 365.25 if you count the leap year.” Shit! I definitely knew that. “What has keys, but no locks; space, but no room; and you can enter, but never leave?” A riddle? I used to be so good at riddles, and I swear… I know this one. “A keyboard. Phone, laptop, or computer keyboard.” My opponent blunts out. I snap my head towards the digital LED screen, freezing in suspense, and for a moment, I hold my breath. “Correct! Congratulation Mr. Bald Man. You can now choose a weapon.”

Letter by letter. "I SEE YOU"

Joseph replied, the smile on his face vanishing as he grew a little confused. Steven got on his feet and said, “I’m going to switch to a different set of questions; I’m sure you’ll enjoy answering.” “I’m not sure where you’re going with this, but it’s getting very late and I have to head back to the lab, so please make it quick,” Joseph said, checking his wrist watch. “What has keys that can’t open any locks?” Steven asked. “A piano,” Joseph answered. “What starts with an E, ends with an E, but only contains one letter?” Steven asked again.

Marinetta's scroll read: "I speak without a mouth and hear without ears. I have nobody, but I come alive with the wind. What am I?" She pondered the riddle, her mind racing. After a moment, she smiled. "An echo," she whispered, and the scroll glowed brightly, the words rearranging to form a key. Harley's scroll presented a different challenge: "I can be cracked, made, told, and played. What am I?" He furrowed his brow, thinking deeply. "A joke," he said confidently, and the scroll responded in kind, forming another key. Seraphina's scroll was the most complex: "I am not alive, but I grow. I do not have lungs, but I need air. I do not have a mouth, but water kills me. What am I?"

"Let it go. We have their clue already. We can get out of here together." I opened the paper again and read what was written. "What Am I? I can be blown but I’m not a bubble I drop but I’m not a tear I come in different shapes but I’m not a snowflake I come in different colors but I’m not a cellphone I come from a tree but I’m not an apple" "Is that a riddle?" she asked curiously while her eyes narrowed at the paper. A small crease was evident on her forehead. "Yeah, I guess."

More riddles again. Why isn't the path to finding the truth straightforward???

What in the world of riddles was that supposed to mean? I flip the paper over peering at all corners like a crazed person on a truth hunt. That couldn't be it! How was I to know what to do with a small key and a note of jumbled nonsense? Whoever was doing this was only succeeding at sending me into a deeper spiral of confusion than helping. A faint scribble just at the right edge of the paper has me squinting my eyes and sighing in frustration as I try to make out the word. E-S-M-E-R-A-L-D-A…

I could not understand what was carved in the stone, so I did not interfere with them. "This is an ancient letter of the Gralynes called Neoclic Words!" Victor said to all of us. I looked at Victor, "Can you read the letters and symbols?" I asked him. "Yes, and this is a riddle," he replied to me, which surprised me. "What is a riddle?"

I reply. Kace chuckles. He's too busy looking around the room to be bothered with me, it seems. For whatever reason, he's captivated by the simplicity of this. Perhaps room design is different in the Vengeance Pack. Either that, or Kace im has been living as uncivilised as I have. "So, the answer then?" He prompts, raising an eyebrow as if to call me out, to make a fool of me. He knows I have nothing substantial. "Alpha Kaden. I believe the answer to the riddle is Alpha Kaden."
