I knew the Rogue was still out there, but my attention has been absorbed by Lyla. The shadow ahead resolves into tawny fur streaked with crimson. It’s Liam, turning toward me, his muzzle glistens pink. Took you long enough. He doesn’t need vocal cords to sound like a prick. I snap at his flank. Status. Rogue took down Jax near the falls. His hackles rise when I growl. Still breathing when we found him. Cassie’s doing damage control. Copper stench floods my sinuses. Fresh blood. The wrongness curdles the air like spoiled milk.

I was still speaking when he darted into a narrow path, running with full speed like there was someone ahead he was trying to catch. I could scent a person but I concluded it could be a member of my pack. Dante wasn’t ready to stop chasing and my eyes widened with shock when a rogue appeared out a bush, running as fast as he could. It took Dante less than five minutes to get him and with a swift movement, he grabbed his neck, using his claws to rip out his head in anger. Dark blood gushed out of his body as he laid on the ground, Dante staggered back, resisting the urge to chew out the rogue and suck off all his blood.

I stopped crying, and the emotion went away, the coldness returning. He got up, and shot me a long stare before he was walking away from me and out of the door to my left. My body was numb, and my senses were still dull. But my mind was swarmed with thoughts. Izer Primeblood, the last surviving Lycan and the Alpha of the damned rogues was my mate. It was a curse—for me, and for him. Because if I would feel for him, it would be the same for him too. I glanced at the door as a bitter smile rose to my lips. I would not cry like a damsel in distress when the person who snatched everything from me roamed freely.

Then he lunged. The ground shook as the clash began. Juls and Roderick met him head-on, claws raking, teeth snapping. The rogue was faster than expected, his movements enhanced by the same black magic corroding Livia’s body. He caught Juls by the throat, slamming him into a tree with bone-cracking force. Juls yelped, his chest burning with pain. “Juls!” Roderick’s roar echoed as he launched himself at the rogue, sinking his fangs into the monster’s shoulder. But instead of pain, the rogue laughed, a guttural, chilling sound, before throwing Roderick aside like a ragdoll.

My skin crawled. “Touch her,” Creed growled, “and I’ll tear your spine out.” Amendus chuckled, slow and cruel. “You can try, Alpha.” He spread his arms. Shadows bled from his hands, seeping into the ground. From the darkness, the forest stirred—and three more Wendigos crawled out, their twisted forms dripping black ichor. Kira’s voice echoed inside my skull: Trust me. My heart thundered. I didn’t know how to fight. I didn’t even know who I was anymore. But the bond—the half-broken thread—pulled me toward Creed, into the storm with him.

The warriors snarl threateningly; their howls and snarls send a jolt of fear to the rogues’ bodies, but they are paid to destroy this pack tonight and kill whoever comes their way. They couldn’t go back. So, they surged forward, trying to attack pack warriors, but under Honey and Xyla’s supervision, they fought together in perfect synchronization. Soon, Ethan and Ruben ran beside Honey, fighting with their alpha with all their determination. Honey sank her canines into the rogue’s neck, finishing his life at once, and threw his body on the three rogues approaching her. Ethan and Ruben lunged at two of them and sank their canines in those rogues’ bodies, making them howl in pain.

As I fumbled in my bag, my hand closed around a heavy steel quill. The door flew open. "You treacherous bitch! Who were you signaling?" The rogue grabbed a fistful of my hair and hauled me out of the transport. He snatched my device and crushed it under his boot. "No! Let me go!" I thrashed, kicking and biting at his hands, but he was a Beta-class brute, far stronger than me. He dragged me across the dirt like a kill. Ruth stirred and tried to crawl out to help, but the driver delivered a brutal kick to her ribs. "Stay down, old meat!" He slammed the transport door and locked it, trapping her inside.

I ordered the pack warriors. "Stay together." I warned my sisters and Roxy. We all turned on our heels so we could stand back to back hoping we couldn't be caught from behind as a shriek escaped the mouth of a neonate running towards us. Roxy was the first to respond, removing its head in one swift motion with her blade. Within seconds we were surrounded by a dozen neonates seething at the mouth. We quickly slaughtered all of them but things became more difficult when the rogues showed up. The odor of rot and decay stung my nose making me want to puke. The scene outside was chaos. The sunset's golden light revealed at least twenty rogues, their half-shifted forms grotesque in the dying glow. They were filthy, clearly outlaws who'd been living wild for too long, their humanity eroded by isolation and desperation. Alexander shifted partially, his hands elongating into lethal claws while maintaining his ability to use the gun. He fired twice in rapid succession, dropping two rogues before they could even react to our emergence from the vehicle. "Alpha of Blackwood," one of them snarled, a tall, gaunt figure with matted hair. "Your head will fetch a fine price."

Dom is quick to move, letting the rogues hit one another. Dazed, the wolves stand and shake their heads. This time Dom lunges. He lands on the larger of the two and sinks his teeth into his leg. The rogue howls in pain. Dom lets go, unable to stomach the trashy taste of blood. The other rogue pounces on him, dragging his claws across his chest. Blood oozes out over Dom’s midnight fur. The gray rogue hovers, snapping and clawing. He never relents, making it hard for Dom to regain control. Red fur comes flying through the trees, tackling the rogue. He never stood a chance against my red-headed beauty. She wraps her jaws around his throat, snapping them shut until she hears the bone break.
