My weight carries him down into the dirt, my claws digging deep into his shoulders as I try to rip his throat out. He twists beneath me with unnatural strength. His jaws snap shut around my right thigh. His teeth sink deep, crushing down into the muscle. I let out a sharp, guttural roar of pain. Through the blur of my own blood, I see one of the other rogues crawling toward the blackberry bush. His long, black claws are reaching into the leaves where the girls are screaming. I let go of the scarred rogue and throw my body sideways, slamming into the one near the bush. I tear my teeth through his shoulder, throwing him away from the children.

’ I snarled. ‘Nyx…let’s hunt.’ She bared her black fangs, and I swear I could feel her smiling. ‘I’m thirsty. Let’s cut these sons of bitches down!’ She leaped and started going after every rogue she could get to, snapping spines and ripping out throats. She got through half of the rogues by the time Aiden and Lucas showed up with the warriors. I heard their roars and threw one of the rogues towards Aiden as he shifted and swiped his paw on the rogue’s neck and dislocated his head before he even touched the ground.

For two years, everyone believed I was dead. And maybe, in a way, I was. I disappeared after making one of the most foolish and reckless mistakes of my life. I trusted the wrong man. Jacob Draven. Three of them growled, foam dripping from their mouths, reddish eyes and their hair was coated in so much dirt that I didn’t know what color it was. Two of them advanced at me, and one took after Jo. Moving to the left, she tried to get out of the way and avoid a paw from the rogues on the inside. Blocking the blow from the outside rogue, she was able to sink her teeth into its forearm. The second was already rounding on me. Going into a death spiral, the arm was snapped off with a sicking pop. It was so rabid that the rogue didn’t even seem to notice as he continued to face plant in the dirt as he tried to get to me. Janet roared angrily, raising her fists high, charging at one of the rogues in the process who was still in his human form. They were seven in number, but with two now writhing on the ground, they had to fight against the remaining five. Xyla twisted her body, spinning on her front paws, and grabbed the right back limb of the rogue on her right and kicked the rogue behind her at the same time while sinking her canines deep inside that limb. Janet's fist connected with that rogue's jaw at the same time, and a shrill sound of crushing bones appeared from that rogue.
