This is the witching hour. I hear the sheets move at the stir of a body. The bed creaks, feet pad close. The curtains pull aside, open to the dark and the warmth of the room. I listened as her footsteps faded down the hallway and sighed, “Beauty and the Beast, that’s what you’ll read me tomorrow night.”

But this room had impeccable lighting; bulbs were installed into sockets in the high roof, they lined and illuminated along all four walls and eight made a square in the centre of the room.
