“I’ve lived in fear for too long. Fear of rejection, fear of failure, fear of not being good enough. I’m done with it.”
Ronan didn’t respond right away. Instead, he stood and slipped the blade into his belt, crossing the porch to stand beside her. His presence was solid—anchoring.
“They’ll come through the eastern ridge,” he said, pointing toward the tree line. “It’s the only path wide enough for a full group to move quickly without being noticed.”
“How long do we have?”
“Two, maybe three days.”
Evelyn let the silence sit for a moment before asking, “What would you do if you were me?”
