Rory’s POV “Wait!” came a voice behind me that I didn’t recognize. I turned and saw a man dressed in a sharp suit doing his best to keep up with me. I slowed down and looked at him. “Who are you? What do you want?” I asked, holding up my small can of mace. The man held his hands up in surrender. “Hold up, my name is Ben. I work for Mr. McFarlan as a bodyguard. He sent me to protect you, something about a school stalker. You are Ms. Rory Hill, aren’t you?” he asked.

They do not look thrilled with the way I barged in to the clearing, all guns blazing. One of the, Murray, eyes me coldly. He's holding a rope in his hand. The other end is wrapped around one of the rogue's neck. The other is Amy. A short, stocky woman with a scar over one eye. She's holding one of the rogues down, pinned to the forest floor. "Rylie?" Amy asks. "What's wrong?" "Nothing," I stammer. But it is. Something is really very wrong. Because the pack are preparing to slaughter the enemy, and the moment I look into the panic-stricken eyes of the rogues, I see my future self.

Back on the couch, I took a minute to gather everything I wanted to ask. Lory beat me to it before I got a single word out. She told me she knew I had questions. Reminded me, gently, that it wasn't her place to answer most of them. But she'd give me this much: Jacky is Amy's sister. She turned and pointed at the portrait hanging in the living room. "That's Amy. Alan's first love." Her voice dropped. "That's as far as I can go."

Henry was leaning against the wall of the hallway, covered in moss, a witness to the true identity of the king they were waiting to sit on the throne. My best friend straightened his posture, glancing behind me. Wary. “Where is Rory?” “She went to her parent’s place. Why?” there was an underlying alarm in his expression that didn’t sit well with me. He ran his fingers through his gray hair. “Fuck! Send Ali to get Rory.” “What’s the matter?” I asked firmly. “Look inside.” He tilted his head to the side, huffing. I did as I was told. Living a life without Rory is probably the only thing that would scare the shit out of me, but Tauri cloaked in Mrs. Loren Grayson’s skin topped the list.

Rory interrupted. “Who exactly are you to interrupt a conversation between alphas?” Norman demanded, his nostril flaring in anger. “Rory Stevens, former medic to the assassin’s guild of Cerathe.” She smiled brightly, dropping a file folder on the table. “The assassin’s guild.” Norman snorted. “That’s a myth. Something we tell our children about to keep them in line.”

I quickly wiped the tears from my face and asked Laura to sit by my side before accepting the video call request. "What made you call me today, Rory?" I asked. Rory smiled. "I just finished today's shooting and suddenly remembered that it was Laura's birthday a couple of days ago. Are you alright? Have you caught a cold?" Rory was a celebrity that was more like in the R-list. She didn't earn much, but was very busy every day. "Yeah, I've got a little bit of a cold. You need to be careful as well. There's been a flu going around recently," I said.

RM short for Rosemary was Rhea's best friend, she loved all things leather and hated flowery dresses and heels, she was completely different from Rhea; Rhea missed her friend, RM had moved to California a few weeks ago since she got a job there, It had always been RM's dream to get away from her parents, since they were very confining. “The one who just stared into these woods like she could see me. Who. Is. She.” Realization dawned in her eyes. “Oh,” she breathed. “That’s… Alaria. She is staying with us for now.” I repeated the name quietly, savoring it on my tongue. “Alaria,” I murmured. “She’s… Alpha Liam’s ex-wife,” Amelia went on quickly. “Mother of his… child. The one Claire hates. He saved her life from the rogues and then found out about the child and once he found out and confirmed that the baby was his… he refused to let her go.”

Adam comes running back into the hall with Rory right behind him. “Sorry,” she says when Adam crashes right into Josie. “It’s all right.” Josie bends over and picks Adam back up, putting him back on his feet. “Gosh, it’s been so long since my daughter was this small.” “How old is your daughter?” Rory asks, scooping up Adam, who immediately fusses. He reaches for me and stops fussing as soon as he’s back in my arms. “She’s fourteen,” Josie answers. “Oh, yeah, it has been a while since she was little then.” Rory looks at me and then back at Josie. “I’m Rory, Jacob’s sister.”
