The arena floor is arranged in levels. At the centre sits the fighting pit, what everyone here calls the Ring. It’s a square platform surrounded by thick ropes and metal barriers, something between a wrestling ring and a cage. Bright lights hang above it, illuminating every inch of the surface like a stage.
Blood stains the mat, when I look closely I see that the stains are fresh.
Crowds pack the surrounding seats, men and women shouting, betting, waving money in the air.
That thought of sitting next to Lorenzo all night makes my stomach tighten.
