He accelerated. We were heading straight for the wall of water. I braced for impact, closing my eyes. WHOOSH. We didn't hit rock. We hit mist. We punched through the waterfall. The noise was deafening for a split second, and then... silence. I opened my eyes. We were inside a massive cavern behind the falls. But it wasn't dark. It was glowing. The cavern was enormous, a hollowed-out mountain large enough to fit a stadium. Bioluminescent crystals—fragments of the meteors?—were embedded in the ceiling, casting a warm, golden light over the entire space.

But sheer desperation gave me the strength to push through, emerging on the other side into another dark tunnel. I didn’t stop to catch my breath.
