The creatures which had been running toward them mindlessly, stopped as if waiting for something. It took Germaine a split second to realize they were waiting for a signal, but it was already too late. A loud rumbling noise split the air and the ground began to rumble and tremble. Seconds later, the ground beneath them shifted and a large cavernous hole appeared. She was flung backward from Keratin's back and fell.
