Darren asked worriedly, making me whip my head up in question. Rune let herself fall on her knees on the snow covered earth next to Pernwél. “Look.” She was pointing towards Pernwél’s back. “There is a marking on her back.” She traced her fingers gently through the three upright bars marring her coat, the tops of the outer two bars were leaning toward the top of the center bar. Three circles were placed above that peak. It looked very strange, not a normal fur discoloration. “It looks like a giant claw.” Darren chimed in.

I whirled around, my heart leaping with hope as I recognized the voice – Damien, battered and bruised but very much alive, was beckoning to us from a narrow passageway that branched off from the main corridor. Without hesitation, I grabbed my son's hand and ran, Elijah and Liam falling in behind us as we fled from the creature's relentless pursuit.
